One of the toughest tickets for shows currently on Broadway is I'll Eat You Later in which Bette Midler, sits on a coach for the entire performance and acts like Bette Midler. Never mind that she's playing Sue Mengers, the influential Hollywood agent who in her day represented the biggest names in Hollywood. Bette in the role of Sue Mengers is pure Bette, relishing those dishy stories about Barbara Streisand and Gene Hackman and attempting to shock us with her bawdy mouth. It's a tour de force because this material in the hands of Bette Midler is simply hillarious. I saw an early preview and Bette needed to be prompted several times but I gather from people who've seen more recent performances, that Bette has the part down part now. I can only hope that this show is being recorded for a television special and/or DVD. It's not to be missed.
